Nine Choirs, Nine Greetings
The chaplet is structured around nine separate greetings, each addressed to one of the nine choirs of angels recognized in Catholic angelology — from Seraphim and Cherubim down to the choir of all Angels — asking through Saint Michael's intercession for a specific grace, such as humility, perseverance, or protection from temptation. Each greeting is followed by an Our Father and three Hail Marys.
Saint Michael as Protector
The devotion closes with prayers addressed directly to Saint Michael, described as guardian of souls and defender against evil, asking for protection and steady faithfulness in daily life. In Catholic tradition, Saint Michael the Archangel is associated above all with spiritual protection and is invoked especially in prayers concerned with resisting temptation or affliction.
Its Devotional Purpose
The chaplet is presented within the tradition as a source of comfort during times of affliction, fear, or discouragement, on the belief that reciting it draws the angels into active intercession on the petitioner's behalf.
