A title, not a term from outside the tradition
The word Juramidam appears nowhere outside Santo Daime; it originates within the tradition itself and is invoked at the close of ritual works, when a leader declares the work ended "by the order of our Master Emperor Juramidam." In the Alto Santo lineage, and among groups that hew closely to Mestre Irineu's original teaching, Juramidam is treated as simply another name for Mestre Irineu himself — distinct from Jesus Christ, whom Irineu Serra is said to have taught was a separate figure. In the lineage descending from Padrinho Sebastião, by contrast, the term is sometimes given a broader meaning, understood as a divine or Christ-like presence within the Daime itself rather than a title belonging only to one man; this wider reading is not shared across the tradition, and the two understandings coexist without having been reconciled.
Accounts of how the title emerged
One frequently cited account, attributed to Guido Carioca, holds that a follower named Antônio Gomes, who joined Mestre Irineu's doctrine in 1938, received a hymn referring to a "General Juramidã" years before Mestre Irineu's own 1959 hymn "Estou Aqui" made the association explicit to the wider community — suggesting, in the tradition's reading, that the identity was disclosed gradually rather than announced all at once. A separate account, attributed to Daniel Serra, describes Mestre Irineu instructing a follower to address him, during Daime work, by the name Juramidã rather than by his given name.
Because these accounts rest on personal testimony and hymns understood as spiritually received rather than on independent documentary evidence, the precise origin and scope of the title remain, by the tradition's own account, somewhat unresolved — a point on which Santo Daime has not sought a single settled answer.
