Fardamento

A Farda (feminina)

The farda worn by women and girls in the Santo Daime has more visible variation than the men's uniform, built around a white base, a green overlay, and a set of sashes whose arrangement differs by marital status.

The white farda

The white portion of the farda can be assembled as a separate skirt and blouse or as a single dress. The skirt falls below the knee, is cut with a shallow yoke at the waist to reduce bulk over the hips, and is typically pleated, with narrower pleats favored in the Céu do Mapiá community. The blouse buttons up the front, has long sleeves, and a simple collar, tailored close enough to the body to sit smoothly at the shoulder and waist. As with the men's uniform, the choice of fabric is left open, with wrinkle-resistant material generally preferred.

The green overlay and sashes

Over the white base, a green underskirt and a set of sashes are worn. The underskirt is cut to a length measured against the wearer's own outstretched hand and, like the white skirt beneath it, is typically pleated. The sashes cross the chest diagonally, and their exact material and color are left open, with the exception that red and black are not used.

How the sashes are arranged depends on marital status. Married women wear the long half of the sash over the left shoulder, crossing the chest to meet at the back below the waist, where it is tied; unmarried women and girls wear it over the right shoulder instead, with the shorter arm falling on the opposite side. The Estrela is pinned to that shorter arm of the sash, again on a side that depends on marital status, and a rose or a palm ornament, for married and unmarried wearers respectively, is pinned to the long sash.

The crown and the blue farda

A crown, open or closed in style, completes the white farda; the design is left to the wearer, though it is understood as a piece made within the community rather than bought elsewhere. White shoes and socks are worn with it; sandals are not considered part of the uniform.

The blue farda is simpler: a navy skirt pleated to the waist, a white blouse buttoned at the front with short sleeves and a plain collar, worn tucked in, with the doctrine's emblem shown on the left breast pocket. A bow-style tie in the same color as the skirt, navy or black shoes, and white socks complete it.
